Last week I decided to experiment. I wanted to see what would happen if I used my organic, sulfate free, essential oil based shampoo twice a week and regular shampoo once a week. I was curious to see what would happen. Would my hair feel different? Cleaner? Easier to style? Maybe I could save some money by using the organic one a bit less. I love the results of the specialty shampoo. But like most people, I like to know that I’m spending my money on something worthwhile.
I used Pura d’Or Pro Organic shampoo on Sunday. On Wednesday I used TRESSemme. My hair felt fine after my shower. But then something funny happened. As it dried it turned dry and stiff. As if every drop of moisture my hair contained had been sucked out. I went to work. As the day wore on my hair turned staticky. And very knotty, like rough knotted yarn. I spent the better part of my day combing out my hair.
Friday I went back to the organic stuff. What a difference! My hair dried soft and smooth. No knots. No static. My hair felt smooth and moisturized. I was able to work straight through the day without stopping to comb my hair. Who knew shampoo could affect your productivity?
I think my experiment is now over. I will not try it again. I cannot risk any more moisture depleting, knot causing shampooing. I am amazed at the difference one hair washing with chemicals can make. I am now happy to spend those extra dollars. I know it’s important to use natural products so that I have a chance of growing old with my hair still attached to my head. Now I have another reason. It’s quite simple. I never want to go through a day with my hair feeling like steel wool again.
